When to start training your puppy?
As early as possible!
Here are the reasons why:
1) Puppies up until the age of 5 months have a high desire to be with you, if YOU do it right. The interest level in other things is very low.
2) A puppy has a clean start. That means that you can train behaviors without retraining wrong behaviors that have been established by no- or wrong training.
Just a hint, a puppy that has been told NO many more times than YES (if at all?!) will have a bad relationship with his owner as well as a bad relationship with training.
How do we train puppies in this program?
Bad behaviors on puppies are ignored, good behaviors are rewarded!
It is proven fact that a behavior that is rewarded, is more likely to reoccur.
A day has 24 hours- then it resets. Logically the puppy will spend more time doing the behaviors that are worth while, because they are rewarded! Therefore the puppy has less time available to do undesirable behaviors!
Puppies (older dogs as well) need to be conditioned to a “marker” such as the clicker” in order to understand exactly what the reward was given for.
Once he understands the marker, we can easily communicate which particular behaviors are rewarded.
Zauberberg Puppy training is designed to create a puppy that wants to try various behaviors that could trigger the reward machine. First with food reward as it is much more specific toward a particular movement or direction. In addition, once rewarded, the reward is gone and we can reset. No struggle over the toy, no challenges getting it back!
At more advanced programs beyond the puppy stage the reward system is transferred to toys.
