Our Bodo vom Schelmenturm, SchH 3, KKL2, German Import, former German Shepherd stud dog National Television! In this episode of the TV series “Rescue 911” shown below, he was trained by Andreas to act as the Tucson Police K9 that got shot in the head by the suspect, while he was biting him.
The Police K9 survived!
The real Police K9 is only seen in the sequence of this film, in which Officer Stokes takes her Police dog out of the Patrol Car, -and at the end on the obstacle course.
All other Dog scenes were reenacted by our own German Shepherd Stud dog here in Tucson Arizona. The uniqueness of the Rescue 911 TV show is that they always go to the original location of the crime. They always want most of the original characters / people reenacting the case. Most of the time they manage to do so, except for the suspect which normally resides in prison at that time, and the victim which might be dead or in this case here is impacted physically and can’t participate.
We only had one single session to train “the bite” scene with the professional stunt man- then we had to record. The Rescue 911 Film Team only has a set budget and a set time frame of three days to spend. Unfortunately a Thunderstorm prevented to shoot the scene where Interstate 10 was blocked and the Helicopter landed on it to pick up the dog. Bodo would have easily performed…we know it is very hard to get a dog to be comfortable in a “running Helicopter”. When we were given the opportunity to try, only Bodo out of four dogs was “staying normal in his behavior, while the others were really shook up about the strong wind blow and the extremely loud noise.
Hint: watch the scene closely where the K9 is being picked up by the Officers after being shot. You see the officer without duty belt? – That’s me!
